[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hye-min] On the 8th, the Chinese government expressed that it was "shocked" by the shooting incident involving former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and stated that it "hopes for his early recovery."


Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded to questions about the incident during a regular briefing, saying, "We are aware of this sudden incident and are shocked," and "We are paying close attention to the developments."


He added, "We hope that former Prime Minister Abe will escape danger and recover his health soon," and "We would like to extend our condolences to his family."


Regarding the reactions of some Chinese netizens, Spokesperson Zhao said, "I will not comment on various netizen remarks," and "I have just fully stated the Chinese government's position. Such sudden incidents should not be linked to China-Japan relations." On the policies toward China promoted during former Prime Minister Abe's tenure, he evaluated, "We recognize his contributions to promoting the improvement and development of China-Japan relations."
