The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 8th that former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had passed away, expressing "deep condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family and the Japanese people."

In a spokesperson's statement on the same day, the Ministry stated, "Our government strongly condemns this shooting incident as an unacceptable violent criminal act under any circumstances."


According to local Japanese media such as NHK, former Prime Minister Abe was shot and collapsed around 11:30 a.m. while campaigning in Nara City, Nara Prefecture, Japan. He was urgently transported to the hospital but died that afternoon.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Park Jin, upon hearing the news of former Prime Minister Abe's attack while attending the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in the afternoon, moved toward Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, who was present at the event, and said, "This is very shocking news."
