[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province was recognized for its proactive efforts to prevent winter disaster accidents such as snow removal and cold waves, ranking '1st' among 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province's evaluation.
Yongin City announced on the 8th that it was selected as an excellent institution (1st place), the highest grade, in the 'Winter Natural Disaster Pre-Preparation and Countermeasure Promotion Evaluation' conducted by Gyeonggi Province, and will receive a commendation from the governor.
Every year, the province evaluates and awards 31 cities and counties within the province based on their pre-preparation status for preventing winter natural disaster accidents and their response measures to prevent casualties and disaster damage. The evaluation period is from September 15 of last year to March 15 of this year.
In this evaluation, the city received high scores for ▲a comprehensive survey of snow-vulnerable structures ▲management by grade of snow removal vulnerable sections ▲operation of on-site response teams for cold wave vulnerable groups ▲joint field training on heavy snow response traffic control measures with Gyeonggi Province ▲real-time weather situation and snow removal site monitoring via mobile.
A city official said, "This achievement is the result of year-round efforts prioritizing citizens' safety to prepare for winter disaster accidents," adding, "We will continue to implement thorough countermeasures so that 1.1 million Yongin citizens can live safely even during heavy snow and cold waves."
