18,625 New COVID-19 Cases Nationwide by 9 PM... Cases Double in One Week

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] As the COVID-19 outbreak shifts to an upward trend, more than 18,000 new confirmed cases were reported nationwide by 9 PM on the 7th.

According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on the same day, a total of 18,625 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19.

The spread is clearly accelerating, with a "doubling" phenomenon where the number of confirmed cases doubles within a week. Compared to 8,984 cases on the 30th of last month, one week ago, the number increased by 9,641, a 2.1-fold rise.

In the interim tally until 9 PM, the number of new confirmed cases has remained in the high 10,000s for four consecutive days since the 4th (17,146 cases).
