Broadcasters and YouTubers Including Kim Sumi to Promote 'Beautiful Islands of Korea'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Broadcasters Kim Sumi and Park Myungsoo, along with YouTubers Jjuyang and Rirang, will promote Korea's beautiful islands and 'Island Day' (August 8).

According to the Korea Island Promotion Agency (Director Oh Dongho) on the 7th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety held the '3rd Island Day Ambassador' appointment ceremony at the Government Seoul Office and appointed four ambassadors: Kim Sumi, Park Myungsoo, Jjuyang, and Rirang.

The ceremony was attended by about 20 people, including Han Changseop, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Oh Dongho, Director of the Korea Island Promotion Agency, officials from Jeonbuk Province and Gunsan City, and the four ambassadors. The event proceeded with a roundtable discussion, presentation of appointment letters, remarks and resolutions, and commemorative photos.

Starting next month, from August 8 to 14, they will continue their official activities as ambassadors by participating in the 'Island Day' event ceremony and filming promotional videos held in Gunsan.

'Island Day' (annually on August 8) is a government-designated commemorative day to raise public awareness of the value and potential of islands, and this year marks its third anniversary.

Broadcaster Kim Sumi will attend the 'Island Day' ceremony and appear as a live commerce show host, while Park Myungsoo plans to host a DJ show at the Island Day event.

YouTuber Jjuyang, who has 6 million subscribers, will film promotional videos for the islands again this year following the '2nd Island Day' event, and Rirang (real name Kim Irang), a YouTuber with 800,000 subscribers, will capture backpacking scenes on Daemaemuldo Island in Tongyeong and upload the videos to YouTube.

Oh Dongho, Director of the Korea Island Promotion Agency, said, "Although the value of domestic islands has recently been reappraised, many places are still forgotten and neglected due to insufficient promotion. We hope that the appointment of influential domestic and international influencers as ambassadors will help Island Day be remembered and engraved in the hearts of the public."
