Jeonnam Province Gains Momentum in Establishing Space Launch Vehicle Cluster

Ministry of Land's Industrial Complex Designation Plan Reflects 'Space Launch Vehicle Specialized Industrial Complex'

[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province has gained momentum in creating a space launch vehicle cluster.

On the 7th, the province announced that the 'Space Launch Vehicle Specialized Industrial Complex,' promoted as part of the space launch vehicle industry cluster creation project, has been reflected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's industrial complex designation plan.

Jeonnam Province, which is focusing on the 'Space Launch Vehicle Industry Cluster Creation,' has completed a concrete self-plan, and since it has been included in the new government's national agenda, the project is expected to gain momentum.

The 'Space Launch Vehicle Specialized Industrial Complex' will be established near the Goheung Naro Space Center with a total project cost of 125.2 billion KRW, covering a total area of 306,124㎡.

On 60% of the total area, industrial facility land (117,312㎡) and complex land (62,813㎡) will be allocated for leading companies (anchor companies) related to space launch vehicle assembly and parts manufacturing.

Following the inclusion of the specialized industrial complex in the industrial complex designation plan, the province plans to accelerate industrial complex development, detailed design service, designation, and land acquisition, aiming to start construction of the complex by 2025 at the latest.

Kim Jong-gap, Director of Strategic Industry Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, “We will strive to develop Goheung as the national center of the space launch vehicle industry by designating a space launch vehicle cluster centered on the Goheung Naro Space Center, establishing core space infrastructure, early creation of the specialized industrial complex, and fostering specialized manpower.”
