[Asia Economy Reporter Yoonju Hwang] Samsung Asset Management announced on the 7th that it will list the ‘Samsung Asia Pacific Metaverse ETF’ on the Hong Kong financial market.
The Samsung Asia Pacific Metaverse ETF is Asia’s first ETF that allows investors to invest in major metaverse companies in the rapidly growing Asia Pacific region all at once.
The country weightings are well balanced across the Asia Pacific region, with Hong Kong at 36.3%, Japan 24.3%, Taiwan 13.3%, China (Shenzhen, Shanghai) 12.5%, and Korea 10%.
The investment items include major metaverse industry-related stocks such as online gaming, social platforms, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and content. Top companies included in this ETF’s model portfolio are ▲ Sony (SONY), a Japanese company entering the metaverse market with PlayStation ▲ Taiwan’s TSMC, the world’s largest foundry company ▲ China’s internet media company Tencent (TENCENT) ▲ Alibaba (ALIBABA), an internet shopping mall platform company ▲ Goertek (GOERTEK), which manufactures smart devices such as XR (Extended Reality) and TWS (True Wireless Stereo) earphones.
In particular, the Samsung Asia Pacific Metaverse ETF is differentiated by including stocks in detailed themes not covered by the existing KODEX China Metaverse ETF. It allows broad investment in server and display sectors, such as Taiwan’s multinational server company WIWYNN and Taiwan’s liquid crystal display panel manufacturer AU Optronics, which were not included in previous metaverse products.
Additionally, it holds about 25% of Japanese companies that occupy a significant portion of the global metaverse ecosystem, making it easier to invest in relatively less accessible Japanese stocks. Examples include major Japanese game developers such as ▲ Nintendo (NINTENDO) and ▲ Bandai Namco (BANDAI NAMCO) in the online gaming theme.
With this new ETF listing, Samsung Asset Management has added an option to invest in the Asia Pacific region, complementing its investment lineup in Korea, the United States, and China, which are leading the global metaverse market.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Asia Pacific Metaverse ETF can be traded from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM when the Hong Kong stock market is open, and investors can invest by entering the stock code ‘03172’ or ‘Asia Meta’ in the HTS or MTS stock window.
