"It’s just a personal matter done out of kindness"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Kim Cheol-geun, Chief of Staff for Political Affairs to the leader of the People Power Party, posted on Facebook on the 7th, stating, "I have never destroyed evidence," and questioned, "Since the fact of evidence destruction has not been confirmed, it is doubtful whether the violation of the duty to maintain dignity related to the suspicion of evidence destruction constitutes grounds for disciplinary action."
On the same day, ahead of the Ethics Committee review concerning allegations of sexual bribery and evidence destruction instruction involving leader Lee Jun-seok, Chief Kim stated, "I have not violated any duty to maintain dignity."
He explained, "The memorandum of investment inducement for 700 million won that I wrote for Mr. Jang was purely an act of goodwill and a personal matter," adding, "It was drafted independently of leader Lee Jun-seok's affairs."
He further added, "I do not know about the events of 2013," and "However, neither leader Lee, Mr. Jang, nor anyone else has ever told me that leader Lee received sexual bribery in 2013."
