Launch of Expert Forum

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The government is undertaking a comprehensive revision of the Telecommunications Business Act, which was established 40 years ago with a focus on regulating telecommunications operators and infrastructure.
On the 6th, the Ministry of Science and ICT held the inaugural meeting of the 'Expert Forum on the Comprehensive Revision of the Telecommunications Business Act' at the Kyobo Building conference room in Jongno-gu, Seoul, chaired by Vice Minister Park Yoon-kyu.
The forum includes 14 experts from the fields of law, economics, management, and consumer affairs, with Lee Won-woo, Vice President for Planning at Seoul National University, serving as the chairperson.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to prepare a comprehensive revision bill of the Telecommunications Business Act by the end of this year through processes of public debates, hearings, and opinion gathering.
At the meeting, Lee Min-seok, Head of the Competition Policy Research Office at the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI), presented on the topic "Suggestions for the Direction of Comprehensive Revision of the Telecommunications Business Act in Response to Changes in the Telecommunications Environment," followed by a free discussion among the members.
Vice Minister Park Yoon-kyu stated, "It is time to consider whether the current Telecommunications Business Act system, which has been maintained since the era when landline telephones were the center of the telecommunications market, aligns with the new paradigm of the digital transformation."
