Attracting Repair Ships to Idle Piers Aiming for New Annual Added Value of About 3 Billion KRW
Improving Financial Structure, Revitalizing Local Economy, and Achieving Customer Satisfaction All at Once
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (YGPA) announced that President Park Seong-hyun's policy of 'Zero Idle Piers' is showing tangible results.
YGPA announced new revenue results for the first half of 2022 on the 6th.
Since his inauguration, President Park has pursued the management policy of 'Customer First, Active Sales, Safe Port, and Regional Win-Win Development,' improving profits through the 'Zero Idle Piers, Zero Idle Sites' policy.
In particular, President Park has urged employees, “Do not ignore urgent requests from shipping companies facing emergency situations requiring ship repairs, but actively handle them to contribute to YGPA and the revitalization of the local economy.”
Accordingly, since January, YGPA has started accepting urgent ship repair requests from shipping companies within the scope that does not interfere with pier safety and cargo handling.
As a result, YGPA approved the docking of a total of 38 repair ships, the highest number since its establishment.
This allowed shipping companies to avoid major disruptions in ship operations, and related local maritime and port businesses such as tugboats, pilots, and agencies, as well as local ship repair companies, generated approximately 1.4 billion KRW in new revenue during the first half of the year, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy, which had been depressed due to COVID-19.
President Park said, “Through the 'Zero Idle Piers' policy by the end of this year, we aim to create 3 billion KRW in new added value related to ship repairs within Yeosu Gwangyang Port, and we will do our best to satisfy customers and revitalize the local economy.”
He added, “YGPA will continue efforts to generate new revenue by maintaining a sound financial structure, accelerating port investment attraction, discovering usable hinterland sites for regional economic revitalization, and early sales.”
