[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) initiated pest control on July 5th in Sangam Neighborhood Park, Bulgwangcheon Stream, and Maebongsan Mountain, areas where lovebugs easily inhabit.
Using seven pest control personnel and pest control vehicles, they sprayed insecticides and installed 95 sticky traps called "roll traps" to capture the insects. The Western Park Greenery Office, which has established a cooperative system with Mapo-gu, conducted pest control in Peace Park and Sky Park.
To eradicate lovebugs, which have recently been causing headaches in urban areas, the district held an emergency meeting chaired by the mayor on the 3rd and carried out urgent pest control. They formed a task force (TF) led by the head of the public health center, operating a 24-hour situation room to handle pest control complaints.
Additionally, to reduce gaps in pest control that may occur at night, they signed a service contract with a private professional pest control company and operate two night pest control teams, each composed of two members. The Saemaeul Autonomous Pest Control Teams, made up of Saemaeul leaders in each neighborhood of Mapo-gu, are also active, mobilizing all available private resources.
On the 3rd, Mayor Park Gang-su, who personally participated in pest control activities, said, “Residents who feel discomfort due to lovebugs are encouraged to report through the 120 Dasan Call Center. It is said that wearing dark-colored clothes is effective in preventing lovebugs from approaching, so please keep this in mind. We will do our best in pest control to resolve residents’ inconveniences.”
