Prosecutors Indict Husband Who Attacked Wife, a Woman in Her 40s, with a Weapon

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The prosecution has arrested and indicted a husband who wielded a weapon against his wife, a woman in her 40s and an actress.

The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 6th that it had arrested and indicted a man in his 30s, Lee Mo, on suspicion of attempted murder on the 28th of last month.

Earlier, the police investigated Lee on the 15th and applied for an arrest warrant on suspicion of attempted murder. On the 16th, Judge Park Won-gyu, in charge of warrants at the Seoul Western District Court, issued the arrest warrant, citing concerns over evidence tampering and flight risk.

Lee is accused of stabbing his wife, a film actress in her 40s identified as Ms. A, in front of their home in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, at around 8:40 a.m. on the 14th of last month. The police, who received a report from a nearby resident, arrested Lee at the scene. Both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and were found to be in stable condition.

According to the police, Ms. A made the first report to the police at 11:40 p.m. on the 13th of last month. She stated there was no physical violence and requested that Lee be removed from the house. After taking action, the police advised changing the door lock password.

The police also provided information about temporary accommodations, but Ms. A reportedly declined. At 1:02 a.m. the next day, Ms. A reported that Lee was entering through the veranda. Three patrol cars were dispatched to search but failed to find Lee.

Later, at around 1:46 a.m., Ms. A reported that she had received a message suggesting her husband might attempt suicide. Police who arrived at the scene found Lee collapsed, attempting suicide, at around 2 a.m.

According to the police, Lee was treated at the hospital and after discharge went to his family home in Incheon but returned to the residence where the crime occurred. He is believed to have committed the crime at around 8:40 a.m., when their daughter was leaving for school.
