Yeongyang County is accepting applications for the 20th Yeongyang Chili Pepper Miss Selection Contest until the 16th of this month.
Started in 1984 as the nation’s first specialty product beauty contest, the Yeongyang Chili Pepper Miss Selection Contest is now in its 20th year. The final competition will be held on August 19 at the Yeongyang County Community Center.
The Yeongyang Chili Pepper Miss Selection Contest, which was suspended due to COVID-19, will resume after four years following the lifting of social distancing measures. Yeongyang County plans to make it a local festival enjoyed by residents, including performances by guest singers.
Applicants must be unmarried women of Korean nationality aged between 18 and 24. Applications can be submitted online or via mobile until July 16. After preliminary rounds and a training camp, finalists will participate in the final competition.
Prize money will be awarded as follows: 5 million KRW for the grand prize, 3 million KRW for the first runner-up, 2 million KRW for the second runner-up, and 1.5 million KRW each for the Dalkkomi and Maekkomi awards. Additional prize money will be provided based on sponsorships.
The winners will serve as promotional ambassadors for Yeongyang County, participating in local specialty product festivals, agricultural and food expos, direct sales markets for agricultural and specialty products, discount sales events at department stores and large retail outlets, and overseas food promotion events, promoting Yeongyang chili peppers and various local agricultural and specialty products.
This contest is not merely a beauty pageant focused on aesthetics but emphasizes promotional skills such as language communication ability and expressiveness to promote Yeongyang chili peppers and other local agricultural and specialty products, with winners selected based on these criteria.
