Hanwha Construction announced on the 6th that it has signed a 'Green Construction Material Recycling Technology Development Business Agreement' with Eco Friends, a company specializing in fiber recycling. The existing PVC (Poly-Vinyl Chloride) safety nets used and discarded at construction sites will be replaced with eco-friendly PET (Poly-Ethylene Terephthalate) safety nets, which will then be recycled back into construction materials.
The existing PVC safety nets are materials that cannot be recycled after use and must be entirely discarded. They also emit toxic gases during fires, causing air pollution. To address this, Hanwha Construction has prohibited the use of PVC safety nets since January and switched to eco-friendly PET safety nets that do not generate waste and do not emit toxic gases during fires. After use, the safety nets are collected, washed, and processed into chip-type concrete fiber reinforcement materials for recycling.
Yoon Yong-sang, Head of Hanwha Construction's Architecture Division, said, "We will develop eco-friendly construction technologies to reduce environmental pollution caused by construction sites and expand Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management."
