[Asia Economy Reporter Intern Lee Gye-hwa] The prosecution has requested a three-year prison sentence for a man in his 40s who was charged with throwing a soju bottle at former President Park Geun-hye.
On the 5th, the 1st Criminal Division of the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office Western Branch (Chief Judge Im Dong-han) requested a three-year prison sentence during the sentencing hearing for Mr. A (47), who was charged with attempted special injury.
The prosecution stated, "The defendant has repeatedly changed his statements before the police, prosecution, and court, making his claims highly unreliable," and added, "It appears that he prepared a saw, cutter knife, and soju bottle in advance and committed the crime targeting former President Park."
Mr. A is accused of throwing a soju bottle at former President Park on March 24 in front of her residence in Yuga-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu, while she was delivering a public message.
At the time, the soju bottle fell to the ground and broke, with fragments flying as close as one meter from former President Park, but no one was reported injured.
Mr. A claimed to be a victim of the People's Revolutionary Party (Inhyukdang) case, but it was revealed that he had no connection to Inhyukdang. However, he was found to be operating an online homepage related to Inhyukdang.
