Together with Busan City, Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, Korea Maritime Institute, and Korea Ocean Business Corporation
Busan Port Authority and four other organizations signed a business agreement to reduce and strengthen the management of marine debris along the Busan coast.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan Port Authority (BPA) signed a "Business Agreement for the Reduction and Strengthening of Management of Marine Litter along the Busan Coast" on the 4th at the 26th-floor conference room of Busan City Hall, together with Busan City, Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, Korea Maritime Institute, and Korea Ocean Business Corporation.
Through this agreement, the five organizations agreed to implement the reduction and management of marine litter along the Busan coast and to establish an organic cooperation system to attract the 2030 World Expo to Busan.
BPA plans to continuously collect trash from Choryangcheon within the International Passenger Terminal and improve the collection and processing system for marine plastics within the port to minimize the generation of marine litter. Additionally, BPA will collaborate with other organizations to frequently conduct campaigns to collect marine litter abandoned along the coast.
▲ Busan City will form and operate a working-level council for marine litter reduction and lead pilot projects for marine litter management using science and technology. ▲ Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation will share information on marine litter generation and collection in the Busan area, support processing, collaborate on pilot projects for marine waste recycling, and support the Companion Beach program and marine environment education.
▲ Korea Maritime Institute will conduct practical policy research related to marine litter reduction and establish management plans, as well as exchange human resources and information related to marine environment education. ▲ Korea Ocean Business Corporation will promote social contribution activities for marine litter reduction and actively participate in marine environment protection campaigns.
Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, "The public sector will cooperate to create a clean Busan sea and provide wholehearted support to successfully attract the 2030 World Expo to Busan Port North Port, which will attract worldwide attention."
