[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, met with the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation visiting Korea on the 5th to exchange views on support issues for Ukraine, including post-war reconstruction.
The Ukrainian delegation reportedly met with Lee at the National Assembly in the afternoon to explain the local situation and requested military support from the Korean side.
Assemblyman Tae Young-ho, who attended the meeting, stated in a post-briefing, "The Ukrainian side explained that fierce fighting is ongoing in the southeastern region and emphasized the importance of military support for Ukraine."
Regarding this, Lee reportedly said, "I will convey the issue of weapons support raised by the Ukrainian side to the Presidential Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of National Defense," according to Assemblyman Tae.
During the meeting, the Ukrainian delegation expressed gratitude for Korea's non-lethal and humanitarian support and hoped that dialogue between the two countries' leaders would proceed promptly.
Previously, Korea provided Ukraine with non-weapon system items such as chemical and biological defense equipment, ballistic helmets, tents, blankets, combat rations, medicines, and bulletproof vests.
The Ukrainian delegation expressed their intention to cooperate with Korea in aerospace, nuclear power, and semiconductor technology sectors while discussing post-war reconstruction support with Lee.
They said, "Ukraine hopes not only for financial support in reconstruction but also for 'win-win' cooperation through trade and investment between the two countries," Assemblyman Tae reported.
The three members of the Ukrainian parliament, including Dmytro Priputen, who arrived in Korea the day before and had dinner with Lee and others, are scheduled to stay in Korea until the 8th.
Last month, Lee visited Ukraine with some People Power Party lawmakers and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky. Assemblymen Tae and Heo Eun-ah, who accompanied him at that time, also attended the meeting.
