"You! I've Waited for You a Lot♥"
The editor's favorite tteokbokki is none other than Yeopgi Tteokbokki. TMI, but on days when stress levels exceed the limit, this is the food I eat to relieve it. Usually, when ordering Yeopgi Tteokbokki, before digging in, I transfer the sauce to another container and put it in the freezer. I use the sauce to make fried rice or to cook tteokbokki again. I always keep Yeopgi Tteokbokki sauce in the freezer, so when the Yeopgi Tteokbokki meal kit was released, I rushed to get it. Here is the editor’s honest review of the original flavor, starting now.
Contents
The kit includes rice cakes, fish cakes, powdered seasoning, cheese, and sausages, each in two sets. Each set serves two people, so you can make a total of four servings of tteokbokki. One of the key elements of Yeopgi Tteokbokki is the well-cooked cabbage, so it’s a bit disappointing that there are no vegetables included. Also, since Coolpis and pickled radish are not provided, I wanted to deduct points on price, but considering the additional delivery fee, the price of 15,000 won doesn’t seem too bad. Now, let’s take a closer look at the ingredients.
The rice cakes are exactly the same shape as those in Yeopgi Tteokbokki. The fish cakes come in two types: flat and long.
They are optional, but actually, they are a must-have! Mozzarella cheese and sausages, essential to Yeopgi Tteokbokki, are also included. Seeing the sausages scored with cuts, I thought, “Yeopgi Tteokbokki, you guys are well-educated!”
The powdered seasoning looks like finely ground red chili powder. It has a spicy aroma that hits the nose, similar to ramen soup base.
Cooking Method
The cooking method is very simple. Before cooking, rinse the frozen rice cakes in cold water to thaw, and then all preparations are done. After that, add the rice cakes, fish cakes, and sausages (excluding the cheese) to 500ml of water and boil over medium heat for about 8 minutes. Finally, add the cheese on top and let it melt to complete the dish.
Taste
Cooking it myself, the taste is very close to the original Yeopgi Tteokbokki flavor rather than ramen soup base. It felt a bit spicier than the usual original flavor, probably because it was freshly boiled and hot. When you pick up the soft rice cakes with chopsticks and put them in your mouth, they slide smoothly and swim around inside. The spiciness of the chili powder stings the tongue and stomach, but isn’t that exactly the charm of Yeopgi Tteokbokki!
Even cooking just one set, there was quite a lot of tteokbokki broth, so you can freely add your favorite toppings. Dumplings, glass noodles, ramen, or udon noodles?enjoy it according to your preference. If you can’t add toppings, at least be sure to add green onions or cabbage.
Usage
If the portion is small for some, you can also make fried rice. Cut the leftover Yeopgi Tteokbokki into bite-sized pieces and stir-fry with one bowl of rice to finish. If you have extra sausages or Spam, add them too. Be sure to drizzle a little sesame oil for a nutty aroma. Promise to top it with seaweed flakes or cheese?definitely!
Overall Review
The quantity is not small for a meal kit, so I want to give it extra points. I want to keep a Yeopgi Tteokbokki meal kit in the freezer and eat it whenever I feel stressed. The Yeopgi Tteokbokki meal kit is something I want to bring camping and even on overseas trips if possible. Your spot in the freezer is reserved from now on!
