Gang Byeong-sik Farm in Yongju-myeon, Highest Bid at 38,380 KRW per kg for Hanwoo, 1st Place Among 22,266 Heads in Total
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 5th that among the 20,266 heads of nationwide Hanwoo cattle shipped to the elderly livestock market in the first half of this year, Hapcheon Hwangto Hanwoo raised by Kang Byung-sik (46 years old) from Yongju-myeon was sold at 38,380 KRW per kg, recording the highest price for castrated bulls.
The cattle, shipped on May 31, weighed 482 kg as a carcass and was graded 1++A, fetching a price of 18 million KRW. This price was about twice the average price of 21,214 KRW per kg for castrated bulls, marking the highest price in the history of Hapcheon-gun.
Kang Byung-sik, who raises about 300 Hanwoo cattle in Yongju-myeon, is known as a farmer who regularly ships high-quality Hanwoo. Based on fattening performance in the first half of 2022, he shipped 17 castrated bulls, with a 1++ grade appearance rate of 65% (11 heads). For reference, the overall 1++ grade appearance rate among all Hanwoo slaughtered in the first half was 33.2%.
Kang, boasting 20 years of breeding experience, has devoted himself to improvement and feeding management. He said, "Consistently feeding TMF feed, which is made by mixing Hapcheon Hwangto Hanwoo feed produced by Hapcheon Livestock Cooperative with high-quality roughage, has brought about these results."
Park Hee-jong, head of the Livestock Division of Hapcheon-gun, stated, "We plan to implement various livestock policies to increase the appearance rate of premium meat in Hapcheon Hwangto Hanwoo, and we will strive to ensure that premium meat production helps improve farmers' income."
