[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Son Seon-hee] On the 5th, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho met with Masakazu Tokura, Chairman of the Japan Business Federation, and other representatives of major Japanese business delegations who visited Korea to attend the 29th Korea-Japan Business Conference, discussing ways to promote economic cooperation and exchanges between businesspeople of the two countries.
Deputy Prime Minister Choo said, "It is regrettable that the Korea-Japan Business Conference, which has functioned as an important exchange channel between businesspeople of the two countries, was temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic." He added, "With the recent inauguration of Korea's new government, expectations and interest in improving bilateral relations are growing, and I am pleased that the Korea-Japan Business Conference has resumed." Since its first meeting in 1983, the Korea-Japan Business Conference has held 29 sessions until 2019, but was suspended in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through this meeting, both sides recognized the need to restore trust between the two countries and build a future-oriented relationship as important partners who must cooperate with each other, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Deputy Prime Minister Choo stated, "To achieve future-oriented outcomes, the government plans to actively support and back efforts to promote active mutual exchanges and economic cooperation between the business communities of the two countries."
