[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunji Kwon] Ryu Seong-geol, chairman of the People Power Party's Special Committee on Price and Livelihood Stabilization, stated on the 5th that "the ruling and opposition parties need to put their heads together at the National Assembly level for more fundamental solutions" regarding livelihood stabilization.

At the People Power Party's floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, Ryu said, "Our economy is facing a triple wave of high prices, high interest rates, and high exchange rates due to raw materials, oil prices, grains, and external supply crises. At times like this, the National Assembly must act immediately for the people's livelihood." Following the proposal by newly appointed Speaker Kim Jin-pyo the day before to form a National Assembly Livelihood Economy Special Committee in his greeting remarks, it is expected that the ruling party's floor leadership will also consider this matter.

Ryu emphasized, "Today, Statistics Korea announced the Consumer Price Index. The feared situation has occurred, rising to 6%," adding, "Currently, the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee is burdened with numerous livelihood-related bills concerning transportation energy environment tax and comprehensive real estate tax. As the ruling party's floor whip of the Planning and Finance Committee in the second half, I hope to promptly handle the piled-up livelihood bills and will do my best."
