[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Volvo Cars Korea announced on the 5th that starting with the 2023 models, it will expand the application of digital service packages, including the T-map infotainment system, Volvo On Call, and the Volvo Cars app offering digital key functions, to models such as the XC90, S60, V60CC, and XC40.
This move follows a global model update aimed at providing a smarter user experience and a safer driving environment that allows drivers to focus on the road. Accordingly, from the 2023 model year, all Volvo models sold domestically will be equipped with a digital service package based on an Android infotainment system developed in collaboration with Google, regardless of trim level.
Among these, the core of the new user experience is the T-map infotainment system, which is the first in Korea to integrate T-map navigation, NUGU digital assistant, and FLO music service within the vehicle. It was developed with an investment of 30 billion KRW specifically for the Korean market. By simply calling ‘Aria’ inside the vehicle, users can access ▲ T-map navigation ▲ phone calls and text messages ▲ personalized music, podcasts, and radio ▲ various information searches such as weather, news, and stock market updates ▲ vehicle controls including interior temperature, heated and massage seats, and ionizer ▲ and NUGU smart home controls to manage lighting, air conditioning, and robot vacuum cleaners.
Additionally, Volvo On Call, which supports 24-hour concierge service, is added for emergency situations such as medical assistance after an accident, battery discharge, or tire puncture, accessible with a single press of the SOS or On Call button located at the top of the room mirror. The digital key and Volvo Cars app, which allow remote control of vehicle locking/unlocking and interior climate settings, are also available. The package includes industry-leading 5 years of free LTE usage and a 1-year subscription to FLO.
Furthermore, the ‘OTA (Over-the-air)’ update service, which allows software updates for new features and performance improvements without visiting a service center via the vehicle’s wireless communication module, will be supported with free data for 15 years. This enables the vehicle to maintain the latest status with just one click, similar to a smartphone, even after delivery.
