Intensive Crackdown on Unlicensed Operation, Drunk Navigation, and Failure to Wear Safety Equipment
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] The Jeonnam Yeosu Coast Guard announced on the 5th that "due to the increase in water leisure activity participants during the summer peak season, a special crackdown on water leisure safety violations will be conducted to prevent safety accidents and establish maritime order."
According to the Yeosu Coast Guard, to prevent maritime accidents and strictly crack down on illegal activities during the summer water leisure activity season, a special crackdown will be carried out from the 15th of this month to August 31st, with promotional and guidance activities taking place until the 14th before the crackdown begins.
This special crackdown will focus on the three major safety negligence practices of water leisure participants (unlicensed operation, intoxicated operation, failure to wear safety equipment), unreported long-distance water leisure activities, and leisure activities conducted outside permitted water leisure hours.
Additionally, the Yeosu Coast Guard plans to strengthen patrols in major water leisure activity areas and conduct joint land and sea crackdowns to strongly enforce against illegal activities.
On May 22nd, ten jet skis were caught operating collectively about 1.2 km northwest off Baekyado, Yeosu City, without reporting long-distance water leisure activities, and a total of 18 vessels have been cracked down on within Yeosu jurisdiction this year alone.
A Yeosu Coast Guard official stated, "It is necessary for water leisure participants themselves to comply with regulations and make efforts to prevent safety accidents through pre-departure safety checks," adding, "We strongly urge reporting when engaging in long-distance water leisure activities."
