Yongin City Secures 290 Million KRW Operating Funds Through Local Sports Promotion Project Contest

[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has been selected for the 'Local Sports Promotion Project,' a workplace sports team operation support program by the Korea Sports Council, securing 290 million KRW in operating expenses.

The Korea Sports Council annually selects outstanding organizations nationwide from workplace sports teams affiliated with local governments and public institutions to support training expenses such as personal equipment, training tools, and competition participation fees for stable operation.

A Yongin City official stated, "This selection will greatly help in efficiently managing the workplace sports teams," adding, "We will do our best to support our athletes so they can demonstrate their skills and achieve good results at the 68th Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival, which will be held in the city this August."

Earlier in April, the city established the 'Yongin City Basic Plan for the Protection and Promotion of Sports Human Rights (2022?2026),' which includes the introduction of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's standard contract and standard operating regulations.

Meanwhile, Yongin City's workplace sports teams consist of six teams in athletics, rowing, kendo, bowling, taekwondo, and judo, as well as a ssireum team affiliated with the Yongin City Sports Council, totaling seven teams with 54 athletes and 7 coaches. Notably, the ssireum team was also included in the support targets for this project.
