[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Russia has repeatedly expressed its position of not supporting Japan and Germany's entry into the UN Security Council as permanent members.
Andrey Denisov, the Russian ambassador to China, attended the UN Global Peace Forum plenary session held in Beijing, China, on the 4th, and stated, "Currently, the UN Security Council has transformed into a stage where the West claims its views as the ultimate truth of the final adjudicating body and conducts propaganda," adding, "Such unconstructive behavior is further dividing Security Council member states and making the Security Council's functions more inefficient."
He said, "In this situation, the need for UN reform is even more urgent, and Russia supports the expansion of the UN Security Council based on broad consensus," and argued, "To this end, it is necessary to increase the representation of African, Asian, and Latin American countries so that the Security Council can reflect the wishes of countries around the world and become more democratic."
Ambassador Denisov emphasized, "Russia does not support Germany or Japan's entry into the Security Council because it would never change the internal balance of the Security Council."
Instead, he said Russia is open to the possibility of India and Brazil joining the Security Council.
