[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, presided over the first meeting of the heads of departments and bureaus since his inauguration.
The meeting, held openly to all employees on the 4th, was conducted not in the traditional way of uniformly reporting and giving instructions based on materials, but rather through free communication to find solutions to current issues without separate materials.
Governor Park urged speeding up the procedures for fulfilling campaign promises, such as forming a Social Integration Committee to encompass generations, genders, and regions, establishing an Investment Attraction Advisory Committee to revitalize domestic and foreign investment attraction, and recruiting experts.
Regarding the increase in provincial investment and foundation institutions pointed out by the transition team, he requested, “Please practically review whether there is functional overlap among investment and foundation institutions by converting the Economic Promotion Agency into an investment corporation or integrating and transforming functions where necessary, and proceed within a short period.”
Governor Park emphasized, “In all provincial administration, including policy development and budget securing, prioritize the residents first,” and “Policies and administration must be carried out from the residents’ perspective.”
He also called for enhancing employees’ work expertise to improve the quality and accountability of administrative services and strengthening responsible administration by department and bureau heads.
Governor Park pointed out the integrity level of Gyeongnam Province, which dropped from Grade 1 in 2017 to Grade 4 consecutively in 2020 and 2021.
“A low integrity ranking is disrespectful to the residents, and if integrity declines, administration will not be trusted,” he said, directing the Audit Committee to play an active role and enforce strict rewards and punishments.
Regarding personnel matters, he stated, “Everything must be transparent and rational to push forward provincial administration as a united team,” and pledged, “We will correct wrong practices and further strengthen transparency in personnel affairs by, for example, disclosing work performance evaluation results for fair personnel management.”
On that day, Governor Park Wansu said, “The governor’s office is open, so please visit anytime or communicate via email or online,” and added, “I hope not only executives but also employees come and share necessary stories.”
Finally, he added, “Residents are suffering doubly and triply due to economic recession and COVID-19,” and urged, “Let’s thoroughly prepare for natural disasters, manage prices, secure national funds, check welfare for vulnerable groups against heatwaves, and create provincial administration that considers even small policies for the residents.”
