Men's Team A Wins Championship · Women's Team B Achieves 3rd Place with Outstanding Performance
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Damyang-gun Senior Citizens' Gateball Team won first place in the Men's A team and third place in the Women's B team at the 15th Jeonnam Governor's Cup Senior Gateball Tournament, securing the overall championship.
According to the county on the 4th, the Korea Senior Citizens Association Damyang-gun Branch participated with one men's and one women's team each in the Jeonnam Governor's Cup Gateball Tournament held on the 30th of last month at the Damyang-gun All-Weather Gateball Stadium (located in Changpyeong-myeon), achieving first place for the Men's A team and third place for the Women's B team.
The tournament was conducted in a format where each of the 22 cities and counties sent two teams each for the Men's A team and Women's B team. The teams, composed of five members each for men and women, competed in a team tournament to determine the rankings.
The Men's A team, consisting of Guk Inhong (President of Damyang-gun Gateball Association), Lee Younggyu (Daedeok-myeon), Jo Jongbae (Wolsan-myeon), Lee Youngsoo (Changpyeong-myeon), Yoon Songchon (Geumseong-myeon), and Choi Seongyong (Bongsan-myeon), won first place and is scheduled to represent Jeollanam-do at the national competition to be held in Gwangju Metropolitan City in September 2022.
The Women's B team, composed solely of players from one Changpyeong-myeon, including Im Geumja, Park Myeonsuk, Nam Seongsun, Seo Jongran, and Son Jaesun, achieved third place, enhancing the honor of Damyang-gun and greatly contributing to the expansion of the gateball population.
Park Jongdae, President of the Damyang-gun Senior Citizens Association, said, "I commend the gateball team for their hard work and excellent results through consistent practice," and added, "We will do our best to actively support leisure activities for the elderly so that they can lead healthy and happy lives in their later years."
