Changwon City to Provide COVID-19 Living Support Funds to Households Below 100% Median Income

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 4th that it will adjust the eligibility for COVID-19 living support funds to those with a median income of 100% or less.

The city will implement the adjustment starting from the 11th, in accordance with the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters' plan to reform the financial support system related to COVID-19 quarantine.

Based on the most recent health insurance premiums paid at the time of quarantine, this will apply to individuals whose quarantine start date is July 11 or later.

Citizens who have been hospitalized or received a quarantine notice due to COVID-19 infection can apply for living support funds at their local eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare center within three months after quarantine ends. If there is one quarantined person in the household, they can receive 100,000 KRW, and if there are two or more, 150,000 KRW in living support funds.

According to the city, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 Omicron variant, the number of living support fund applications from quarantined individuals in the region has exceeded 170,000 cases.

Centered on the city's Social Welfare Division, 89 public officials worked on a rotating basis for two weeks at the COVID-19 Living Support Fund Support Center, and 17 contract workers were deployed to review and process payment for the 172,111 applications received.

A city official stated, "As of the end of June, we have supported 40.2 billion KRW for 165,111 applications, which accounts for 36.2% of all households in Changwon Special City."

Lee Seonhee, Director of the Welfare, Women, and Health Bureau, said, "We hope that the adjustment of the living support fund eligibility will help low-income citizens with difficult economic conditions to recover their daily lives quickly," and added, "We will not let our guard down to prepare for a resurgence in the second half of the year."
