[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Park] The director of a daycare center who was fined for a child abuse case filed a lawsuit to cancel the penalty but lost the case.

The Ulsan District Court Administrative Division 1 (Presiding Judge Sooyoung Lee) announced on the 4th that it dismissed the lawsuit filed by Director A against the local government that imposed the fine.

At a daycare center in Dong-gu, Ulsan, operated by A, it was revealed that childcare teacher B abused a child from September to November 2020.

Accordingly, the prosecution issued a suspension of indictment to A and B. A suspension of indictment means that although the charges are acknowledged, the suspect is not prosecuted considering mitigating circumstances.

Additionally, the local government imposed a fine of about 23 million won and a three-month suspension of director qualifications on A, but A filed a lawsuit in objection.

The court ruled that there was no problem with the local government's decision. The court stated the reason for dismissal, saying, "It appears that the local government imposed a fine instead of suspending the daycare center's operation, considering factors such as the operation of the night extended class and the proportion of dual-income parents," and added, "It seems they actually reduced the penalty."
