Military Authorities Suspect Anti-Tank Mines
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] A fatal explosion occurred at a flood recovery site north of the Civilian Control Line (MinTongsun) in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do.
The military authorities stated on the 3rd, "A tragic accident occurred in the area north of the Civilian Control Line where one civilian died due to an unexplained explosion," and added, "We are cooperating with related agencies to determine the cause of the accident."
According to the police and military authorities, at around 9:40 a.m. that day, an explosive device presumed to be an anti-tank mine detonated at Yugokcheon in Dochang-ri, Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do.
As a result of the accident, an excavator was damaged, and one man presumed to be the operator died.
At the accident site, a small excavator was conducting flood recovery work, and the explosion caused a power outage in the area.
The police and military authorities are controlling the site and investigating the human damage situation and the cause of the accident.
