[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] The ruling and opposition parties continued negotiations on the National Assembly's second half organization on the 3rd but ultimately failed to reach an agreement. However, discussions are expected to continue.

On the same day, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, held a private meeting with Park Hong-geun, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, at an undisclosed location in Seoul to continue negotiations on the organization of the National Assembly.

Later, meeting with reporters at the National Assembly, Floor Leader Kwon said, "From 3 p.m., I met with Floor Leader Park for about two hours and exchanged candid opinions on each party's positions. However, we did not reach an agreement on the organization negotiations, and we agreed to continue discussions before parting."

He did not specify which parts were discussed. Floor Leader Kwon explained, "Since no conclusion has been reached on the negotiation progress, it is not appropriate to comment at this stage. We mutually agreed not to disclose details."

When asked, "How will you respond if the Democratic Party elects the Speaker unilaterally tomorrow?" Floor Leader Kwon replied, "We are discussing that matter, so it would be good if a conclusion is reached. If no agreement is made, we will announce our position then." The Democratic Party initially planned to hold a plenary session and elect the Speaker unilaterally on the 1st but postponed it to the 4th.
