[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, held an inauguration ceremony at 2 p.m. on July 1st in the large auditorium on the 5th floor of Dongjak-gu Office, officially announcing the launch of the 8th term of the elected administration.
On this day, Mayor Park directly reported and proclaimed the roadmap for each campaign pledge to the residents under the slogan "Working Dongjak, New Change."
Especially before the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Park visited the Dorimcheon area as the first step of the 8th term to inspect for any flood damage and prioritized the stabilization of people’s livelihoods.
About 1,000 people, including local party district chairpersons, city and district council members, heads of professional organizations, and residents who are working hard for the local community, attended the inauguration ceremony.
Prior to the main event, the Miracle Developmental Disabilities Choir performed a pre-ceremony cultural performance to announce the energetic start of the 8th term.
The inauguration ceremony proceeded in the order of the new mayor’s oath of office, "Wishes for the New Mayor," vision proclamation, and a photo session with residents. Residents from all walks of life congratulated Mayor Park’s election and conveyed their hopes through a video titled "Wishes for the New Mayor."
Instead of an inaugural address, Mayor Park revealed the vision of Dongjak-gu through the vision proclamation ceremony. He stated, “We will focus on creating new changes in Dongjak,” presenting the vision and action plans for the 8th term of Dongjak-gu, as well as the projected appearance of Dongjak in four years.
The vision for the 8th term of Dongjak-gu is to enhance ▲urban value ▲human value ▲quality of life ▲historical and cultural value. To achieve this, the administration will comprehensively improve the city by promoting ‘Dongjak-gu style redevelopment and reconstruction,’ providing care throughout the entire life cycle from pregnancy to old age, realizing a compact 10-minute city, and creating historical and cultural landmarks.
Mayor Park Il-ha emphasized, “From now on, Dongjak-gu will transform into a Dongjak that residents can take pride in,” and pledged, “I will definitely become the mayor who changes the map of Dongjak in four years.”

Dear 390,000 residents of Dongjak-gu,
Greetings. I am Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu.
I am very pleased to serve as the new mayor for the 8th term of the elected administration.
Thanks to your honorable choice, I have taken on the heavy responsibility of being the mayor of Dongjak-gu.
I will become a ‘working mayor’ who truly meets the aspirations of the residents.
From the moment I decided to run, as a former Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport official, I have constantly pondered what must be done to make the stagnant Dongjak-gu run again.
Now, only the time for action remains.
For the next four years, I will listen carefully to the voices of the residents and work harder than ever to focus on creating new changes in Dongjak. I will definitely resolve the long-standing local issues that have been at a standstill for a long time.
Dear beloved residents of Dongjak-gu,
During the election process, I promised to “use my experience in handling major tasks to change the map of Dongjak-gu.”
This is also a promise to raise ‘the value of Dongjak’ in a way that meets the expectations of the residents.
In my view, Dongjak-gu is a district with more potential value than any other autonomous district.
It is located at the geographical center of Seoul and borders the Han River, a natural scenic treasure.
Also, with the recent opening of the Sillim Line, six subway lines (18 stations) pass through the district, and it is a transportation hub connecting the east, west, south, and north of Seoul through major roads.
Once known as the original Gangnam area, while today’s Gangnam has grown into an affluent district, our Dongjak has been left in a deteriorated state.
This is because no one has presented a clear development direction, failing to utilize its geographical advantages.
Infrastructure necessary for daily life is also absolutely insufficient. There is no abundance of parking lots or sports and cultural facilities.
The limited road network has even confined Dongjak-gu’s potential value.
We must also find new industrial items to lead the future. New growth engines are desperately needed.
Dongjak can no longer be a stagnant city lacking vitality.
The future Dongjak-gu must be different. No, it will be different and new.
As a land development expert, I will devote myself to maximizing the district’s potential value and opportunities so that Dongjak-gu can grow into a new central area representing Seoul.
The 8th term of Dongjak-gu will focus all its efforts on raising residents’ pride through ‘performance-oriented, working administration.’
Dear respected residents,
What Dongjak-gu needs now more than anything is diverse opinions and ideas. I ask you to give me much encouragement and generously share your valuable opinions. I will repay you with policies that reflect the residents’ thoughts.
Four years from now, Dongjak-gu must look distinctly different from today.
From this moment, I will become a great worker who changes Dongjak-gu.
I will create the ‘best value city in Seoul’ that residents can be proud of.
I am confident as long as I am with the residents.
Above all, I will not lose my initial resolve. Throughout my term, I will keep today’s determination in my heart and surely lead new changes that residents can empathize with.
