[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Lee Soo-hee, the 8th elected mayor of Gangdong-gu, held the inauguration ceremony for the 8th term mayor of Gangdong-gu at 2 p.m. on July 1st in the main auditorium of the district office.
Before the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Lee toured flood control facilities such as Cheonho Stormwater Pump Station and Hangang Yukkapmun with district officials, and conducted a safety inspection at the large-scale construction site of Cheonho 1 District redevelopment.
He also urged the relevant departments to make every effort to prevent safety accidents in preparation for the upcoming rainy season.
The inauguration ceremony was conducted simply but substantively with the staff, considering the difficult internal and external circumstances.
Through the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Lee emphasized moving toward the changes desired by the residents of Gangdong with the district administration goal of “Vigorous Change, Proud Gangdong.”
Lee Soo-hee, mayor of Gangdong-gu, pledged, “I will complete the grand design so that Gangdong-gu itself becomes a brand. I will prioritize Clean Gangdong, which creates clean streets and designs the city, and will actively work for the dynamic growth of Gangdong.”
He then promised the staff, “Through the transition team’s work report, I confirmed the sincerity and passion of the employees. I will spare no support so that employees can fully demonstrate their potential,” and pledged to work together to make Gangdong attractive and vibrant.
Inaugural Address of Lee Soo-hee, 20th Mayor of Gangdong-gu, 8th Elected Term
Dear Gangdong family! I have really wanted to see you. Nice to meet you. I am Lee Soo-hee, the 20th mayor of Gangdong-gu for the 8th elected term.
I am well aware of the efforts of many people who have made the current Gangdong. Although the direction may have been somewhat different, one thing is clear: Gangdong has grown and protected the happiness of its residents. Thank you very much for your hard work. I deeply appreciate your dedication.
I ask you to join me in making Gangdong newer, stronger, and together. As much as you love Gangdong, we must not be satisfied with the current state of Gangdong, and we must definitely change what needs to be changed. To protect the pride of Gangdong residents, we must make Gangdong more attractive and vibrant than any other autonomous district.
This is not just my idea. It is the will of the residents of Gangdong shown in the recent election. You also know well how much Gangdong residents long for “change.” The reason residents directly elect the mayor through elections is to ask what kind of Gangdong they want and in which direction.
From now on, you and I must create the changes that Gangdong residents want. To fulfill the passionate desire of Gangdong residents, we must complete “Vigorous Change, Proud Gangdong.”
The 8th elected term of Gangdong will be an era of transition. Let’s create a grand design so that Gangdong itself, not just the Gangnam 4 districts, becomes a brand. I expect you to demonstrate your capabilities at every moment.
The start of 2030 Gangdong is Clean Gangdong. There is a lack of a clear image that comes to mind when you think of Gangdong-gu. I will design the image of Gangdong-gu in 2030, encompassing ideas from urban planning experts to artists.
And I will prioritize “Clean Gangdong.” When entering Gangdong-gu from Songpa and Hanam, or crossing Cheonho Bridge, we plan to first create streets in Gangdong that make people say, “Wow, this is great.”
2030 Gangdong will be Dynamic Gangdong. A population of 500,000 in Gangdong is just ahead. As you know well, when the population exceeds 500,000, the status of the Gangdong district office changes. Although Seoul’s population is decreasing due to soaring real estate prices, our Gangdong-gu has the conditions for dynamic growth. I, as mayor, will take the lead in improving the residential environment through active redevelopment and reconstruction, and in attracting practical businesses. I will secure cooperation from any institution for eco-friendly development, including easing regulations along the Hangang River.
The 8th elected term Gangdong district office will share more information with residents. Satisfaction with district administration depends on how sincerely and well complaints are handled. The 8th elected term Gangdong district office must devote itself to complaint handling. The basis of complaint response is to think from the consumer’s perspective, not the provider’s.
To my 1,600 fellow employees!
You and I are all public officials. Honor is the top priority for public officials. Let us protect our honor through achievements in work and integrity in attitude. As mayor, I will take the lead to ensure that our workplace is one where we do not yield to external pressure and can uphold just convictions.
Today, we have taken the first step toward “Vigorous Change, Proud Gangdong.” For the 460,000 residents of our Gangdong-gu, together with you who are the main actors of the Gangdong district office, we will make a livable and proud Gangdong!
We will definitely complete it.
Thank you.
