[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] LS Cable announced on the 3rd that it will promote a wooden drum recycling business for cables. This is part of strengthening ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management by implementing resource circulation.
Wooden drums are used in the storage and transportation of cables and are often discarded after a single use. Accordingly, LS Cable has established an online platform called 'On Drum' where used wooden drums can be traded, and plans to start operations from September.
When companies or institutions upload information about empty drums after using cables, collection companies repair and repackage them to supply back to cable manufacturers. Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power is participating in the project on a pilot basis.
LS Cable and KHNP signed a 'Business Agreement for Joint ESG Management Practice and Resource Circulation' at LS Cable headquarters in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province on the 1st. As the first step, they agreed to cooperate on the collection and recycling of wooden drums at KHNP construction sites.
An LS Cable official said, "We plan to continuously develop resource circulation businesses for cables and auxiliary materials."
On Drum is operated by G&P Wood, a wooden drum manufacturer and LS Cable’s subsidiary. Lee Kyung-ro, CEO of G&P Wood, said, "By systematizing and digitizing the supply and collection process of drums, we will contribute to reducing construction waste and promoting resource recycling."
