[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The 12th Gyeongnam Changwon Citizens' Day commemorative ceremony was held on the 1st.
About 10,000 citizens attended the ceremony held at Changwon Square, including Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Kim Igeun, Chairman of the City Council, and National Assembly members Kim Youngseon and Choi Hyungdu.
On that morning, Mayor Hong, inaugurated to mark the launch of the 8th elected administration, said, "There has been no such lively event for 2 to 3 years due to the impact of COVID-19, so I am glad to have this event with our citizens," adding, "I will engrave in my heart that the pride and affection of citizens for Changwon are the most precious values to protect, and I will do my best to help Changwon leap forward as a central city in Northeast Asia."
The event began with a pre-ceremony performance by the Changwon Municipal Dance Troupe and the Boys and Girls Choir, followed by the 'Pomp and Circumstance March' resonating throughout the square, performed by the Municipal Symphony Orchestra and the Municipal Choir.
Afterwards, the ceremony included the national anthem, reading of the Citizen Charter by citizen representatives, awarding of meritorious citizen and cultural awards, commemorative and congratulatory speeches, screening of congratulatory videos sent by citizens from various sectors, and celebratory performances.
The Citizen Charter was read by Kwon Jeongdae from the Korea Institute of Materials Science as a representative of the city's key vision in leading the 4th Industrial Revolution sector, and by Kim Nayoung, Director of the Student Council at Changwon National University, as a representative of the youth and women sector.
After the ceremony, fireworks were launched from the rooftops of Changwon City Hall and the Nonghyup building at Changwon Square, decorating the night sky of Changwon, and singers such as Seol Woondo, Norazo, Nataju, Eun Gaeun, and Jang Minho filled the stage at the congratulatory concert.
A citizen who attended the event said, "It was a big event held after a long time, so I came with my children, and they were amazed and enjoyed it," adding, "I will support and watch as a citizen, looking forward to how Changwon will change under the new mayor's leadership."
Another citizen said, "It was my first time seeing fireworks up close, so I was surprised, but they were really beautiful," and added, "I was happy to see my favorite singers as well, and I want to come again next time."
