Park Jun-hee Inaugurated as the 8th Term Gwanak-gu Mayor... "Creating a Happy Gwanak for All Residents Together"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] “Dear respected residents of Gwanak-gu, Park Jun-hee, the representative worker of Gwanak-gu entrusted with the aspirations of the residents and the mission of the times, will keep his promises well and serve you even better. No matter how difficult or long the road to Gwanak’s development is, I will steadily move forward.”

This is the pledge made by Park Jun-hee, who succeeded in re-election following the 7th local government term as the head of Gwanak-gu.

On the 1st, the ‘Inauguration Ceremony of Park Jun-hee, 8th Elected Head of Gwanak-gu’ was held at the Gwanak-gu Office auditorium, filled with higher dreams and hopes. About 1,000 residents, including members of the National Assembly, city and district councilors, key figures from related organizations, seniors, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups, gathered to celebrate the new start of Gwanak in the 8th local government term.

In his inaugural speech, Mayor Park expressed his sincere gratitude to the residents of Gwanak-gu who joined the new and exciting vigorous journey toward a “Together, Leading Gwanak-gu where everyone is happy,” saying, “Thank you sincerely for your support and encouragement that allow me to lead Gwanak-gu.”

He then presented the vision and goals of the “8th Local Government Term Together, Leading Gwanak-gu,” which will newly leap forward based on the principles of innovation, inclusion, and cooperation.

He conveyed concrete plans to implement six major pledges for the next four years promised to residents: Gwanak S Valley 2.0, revitalization of neighborhood economies as part of the innovative and symbiotic “Together Economy,” a warm Gwanak community embracing everyone as “Together Welfare,” the youngest and most vigorous “Youth Special City Gwanak,” “Leading Education and Culture” to blossom the Gwanak Renaissance, a sustainable city “Clean and Safe Living Space Gwanak,” and a smart “Innovative Gwanak Office” that works together on all matters.

In particular, Mayor Park stated, “We will establish the nation’s first Youth Culture Bureau and operate the Youth Office to lay the foundation for the youngest and most vigorous Youth Special City Gwanak, making Gwanak a role model for youth policies nationwide,” reflecting his ambition fitting for the city with the highest youth population ratio in the country.

He also emphasized cooperation and communication administration by saying, “We will resume the operation of the open mayor’s office ‘Gwanakcheong’ and the ‘Mobile Gwanakcheong,’ where the mayor personally visits the field, to always communicate with residents.”

The unique “Appointment Certificate Ceremony,” where residents directly appoint the mayor to express “Gwanak-gu where residents are the owners,” also attracted attention.

Seven resident representatives, including seniors, people with disabilities, women, children, small business owners, and multicultural families, presented appointment certificates to Mayor Park, each containing their wishes and hopes for welfare enhancement for seniors and people with disabilities, gender equality for women, happiness for children, revitalization of the local economy, and communication among multicultural families.

Park Jun-hee, head of Gwanak-gu, said, “The most important value in life is happiness. I will do my best to create a ‘Together, Leading Gwanak-gu’ where all 500,000 residents are happy together. I will continue to make the great history of Gwanak with the great residents,” expressing his thoughts at the start of the 8th local government term.

Inaugural Speech

Dear respected residents of Gwanak-gu! I am Park Jun-hee, the 8th elected head of Gwanak-gu. I sincerely thank all the residents of Gwanak-gu who have joined this new and exciting vigorous journey toward a “Together, Leading Gwanak-gu where everyone is happy.”

Four years ago, I declared that I would make Gwanak a better place to live and a happier city, and began the 7th local government term. Over the past four years, I worked very hard, achieving a 96.2% overall pledge fulfillment rate, keeping promises made to residents, and attracting about 870 billion won in external funds, opening the era of a 1 trillion won budget for the first time in Gwanak-gu’s history.

We opened the Gwanak Light Rail Transit era by launching the Sillim Line. Dorimcheon Stream was safely and cleanly maintained and newly developed as Byeolbitnaerimcheon with cultural elements. Also, by focusing on the Gwanak S Valley development project, Gwanak-gu, once a barren land for startups, achieved the great feat of being designated as a venture business promotion district alongside Gangnam-gu.

The 7th local government term of Gwanak-gu is a “great success history” created together with residents. Entrusted with the aspirations of residents and the mission of the times, I will work hard without losing my original intention during the next four years given again. I will meet residents’ expectations with even greater achievements.

Starting the 8th local government term with residents, I will focus on six strategic goals to realize the vision of “Together, Leading Gwanak-gu.”

We will grow the innovative and symbiotic Gwanak economy bigger and leap forward as a “Together Economy” city, and create a warm Gwanak community of “Together Welfare” to stand tall as the nation’s top inclusive city.

We will fully bloom the Gwanak Renaissance through the youngest and most vigorous “Youth Special City” and the nation’s best “Leading Education and Culture” policies, and build a sustainable city, “Clean and Safe Living Space Gwanak.” We will become a fully open “Innovative Gwanak Office” that smartly promotes all these tasks together.

Park Jun-hee, the representative worker of Gwanak-gu entrusted with the aspirations of residents and the mission of the times, will keep all these promises well and serve residents even better. For the sake of Gwanak-gu residents, I will actively cooperate with the central government and Seoul city and practice “cooperative politics” together with the district council.

The most important value in life is happiness. I will do my best to create a “Together, Leading Gwanak-gu” where all 500,000 residents of Gwanak-gu are happy together.

“I will continue to make the great history of Gwanak with the great residents.” Thank you very much.

Gwanak-gu Head Park Jun-hee
