Applied in 31 Countries Including EU Members... Fourth Following Singapore and Others
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] It is now possible to prove COVID-19 vaccination using South Korea's COOV (COVID-19 Vaccination Verification System) app even in European Union (EU) countries.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) announced that on the 30th of last month, it reached an agreement with the EU to mutually recognize COVID-19 vaccination certificates, which took effect from the 1st.
With this agreement, South Korea will recognize the EU's Digital COVID Certificate (EU DCC) vaccination and test certificates, and the EU will recognize domestic COVID-19 vaccination certificates through South Korea's COOV app.
Accordingly, COOV app certificates will be treated as equivalent to the EU DCC in 31 countries, including the 27 EU member states, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and Iceland. Norway and three other countries also use the EU DCC. However, Switzerland requires legal amendments, so it will take some time before implementation.
The KDCA previously established mutual recognition of vaccination certificates with Singapore, Vietnam, and the Philippines, making this agreement with the EU the fourth mutual recognition of COVID-19 certificates with foreign countries.
