Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Sold 599,144 Vehicles Domestically and Internationally Last Month (Comprehensive)


[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hyundai Motor Company and Kia sold a total of 599,144 vehicles domestically and overseas last month. While Hyundai's sales decreased compared to the same period last year, Kia's sales increased.


Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 1st that it sold a total of 340,534 vehicles worldwide last month, including 59,510 units domestically and 281,024 units overseas. Compared to the same period last year, domestic sales decreased by 13.0% and overseas sales decreased by 2.5%.


In the domestic market, sedans sold a total of 15,975 units, including 7,919 units of the Grandeur, 4,717 units of the Sonata, and 3,310 units of the Avante.


For recreational vehicles (RVs), the Palisade was the best-seller with 5,760 units. This was followed by 2,913 units of the Santa Fe, 2,864 units of the Tucson, 1,507 units of the Ioniq 5, and 4,401 units of the Casper, totaling 20,006 units sold. Additionally, the Porter sold 6,980 units, the Staria 2,451 units, and medium to large buses and trucks recorded sales of 2,890 units.


The premium brand Genesis sold 2,456 units of the G90. Other models included 3,630 units of the G80, 1,745 units of the GV80, 2,219 units of the GV70, and 670 units of the GV60, totaling 11,208 units.


Overseas sales recorded 281,024 units, a 2.5% decrease compared to the same month last year.


A Hyundai official stated, “Although management uncertainties continue due to semiconductor parts supply disruptions, we will minimize the impact of supply delays through flexible semiconductor allocation,” and emphasized, “We will expand market share and strengthen profitability through the launch of competitive new models and solid sales strategies.”

Kia sold a total of 258,610 vehicles globally last month, including 45,110 units domestically and 213,500 units overseas, marking a 1.8% increase compared to the same period last year.


By model, the Sportage was the best-selling vehicle globally with 43,201 units sold. The Seltos followed with 23,806 units, and the Sorento with 19,399 units.


Domestically, sales decreased by 8.5% compared to the same month last year, totaling 45,110 units.


The best-selling vehicle last month was the Sorento with 5,593 units sold. Passenger models sold a total of 14,837 units, including 4,012 units of the K8, 3,812 units of the Ray, 2,414 units of the Morning, and 2,352 units of the K5. Recreational vehicles (RVs), including the Sorento, sold a total of 25,681 units, with 5,590 units of the Carnival, 4,513 units of the Sportage, and 3,821 units of the Niro. Commercial models sold a total of 4,592 units, including 4,386 units of the Bongo III, combining buses and trucks.


Overseas sales recorded 213,500 units, a 4.3% increase compared to the same month last year. By model, the Sportage was the top-selling overseas model with 38,688 units sold. The Seltos followed with 20,545 units, and the K3 (Forte) with 17,358 units.


A Kia official stated, “Although semiconductor parts supply issues have not been completely resolved, improvements are being seen, with last month marking the highest performance since October 2020,” and emphasized, “We will expand market share and profitability through the launch of competitive new models such as ‘The New Seltos’ (Seltos facelift model) and solid sales strategies.”
