[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Police Agency announced on the 1st that they apprehended two individuals who stole a vehicle in Yeongam, Jeonnam, and fled to Haenam, at a roadside in Munnae-myeon, Haenam County.

They are suspected of stealing a vehicle on May 28 after discovering a car on a road in Yeongam that was unlocked with the key left in the ignition.

After receiving a report on the 29th that the vehicle was missing, the Jeonnam police quickly issued a vehicle alert, confirmed that the vehicle had entered Haenam jurisdiction, and instructed the Haenam Police Station to respond.

Accordingly, the Haenam Police Station deployed patrol cars along the expected escape route, and the patrol car from the Eupnae District Unit spotted the fleeing vehicle and began pursuit.

Upon spotting the patrol car, the suspects attempted to escape at a speed of 200 km/h, but about 400 meters ahead, the Munnae Police Substation patrol car, having received a radio alert, was driving against traffic along the escape route, attempting to apprehend the suspects from the front together with the pursuing patrol car from behind.

Judging that it was difficult to apprehend the suspects with the patrol cars alone, the police officers asked for cooperation from passing vehicles, stopped them, and blocked the escape route.

The suspect vehicle, upon seeing several stopped cars, tried to escape through the gaps between them but gave up due to the many stationary vehicles and was apprehended on the spot.

The above apprehension process is posted on the Jeonnam Police Agency’s YouTube channel ‘Saengsaeng-JeonnamPol’ under the title ‘Police Operation to Block the Escape Route of Vehicle Theft Suspects Who Fled.’

Netizens who watched the video commented, “They even drove against traffic to catch them... The citizens who cooperated must have been surprised,” expressing admiration for the civic spirit of those who helped at the scene.

A Jeonnam police official said, “If a vehicle is left unattended without securing it, it can become a target for vehicle theft and break-ins,” and urged caution.
