[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] On the 1st, Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok signed the office handover document and officially began his duties as the mayor of the 8th elected term.
Mayor Yoo paid respects at the Memorial Tower in Subong Park in the morning, then signed the office handover document at City Hall in the presence of the Deputy Mayor and others, and awarded appointment letters to newly appointed employees.
He then encouraged the staff of the Infectious Disease Control Division, responsible for COVID-19 response, and visited operational departments such as the City Hall cafeteria, police officers' lounge, civil service office, and janitors' lounge to meet with employees.
At 7 p.m. that day, Mayor Yoo held an inauguration ceremony with citizens featuring cultural and artistic performances at the Sangsang Platform yard of Incheon Port Pier 8.
The choice of the event venue at Incheon Inner Port Piers 1 and 8 symbolizes the starting point of the first pledge, the 'Jemulpo Renaissance Project,' representing a strong commitment to regional balanced development, including revitalization of the old downtown area.
This pledge involves securing ownership of 1.82 million square meters of the Inner Port area owned by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, designating it as an economic free zone, and creating a 'Harbor City' centered on history, culture, marine tourism, leisure, and culture.
The inauguration ceremony featured performances by a children's choir, traditional Korean music (gugak), vocal music, rock bands, the municipal arts troupe, famous popular musicians from Incheon such as Song Chang-sik, and singer Yang Ha-young who sang "Dreamland," with lyrics written by Mayor Yoo. There was also a touching performance by a disabled dance team.
Drawing on his cultural experience as a music caf? DJ and lyricist, Mayor Yoo personally conducted a program called 'Citizen Communication' during the event, engaging in candid conversations and sharing warmth with citizens for the first time in four years while showcasing his artistic talents.
Mayor Yoo expressed a strong determination to devote all his capabilities and experience to the position of Incheon mayor, which he has taken on again after four years, with the goal of creating a "world-class city where citizens are happy."
He plans to focus on two balanced development plans for the 8th elected administration: "mutual development among social classes," which considers small business owners such as self-employed individuals, and "mutual development among generations," which provides dreams and jobs for youth and ensures healthy and joyful old age for seniors.
He also presented a vision to foster future industries such as bio, automobile, robotics, aviation, hydrogen, IT, logistics, and tourism intensively, aiming to elevate Incheon to South Korea's second-largest economic city.
Additionally, plans include early opening of the Incheon-origin KTX, establishment of new railway networks such as GTX-B, GTX-D Y-line, GTX-E, and the circular Incheon Line 3, and construction of expressways including Seo-chang to Gimpo and Gyeyang to Ganghwa. The plan also involves undergrounding the Gyeongin Expressway and Gyeongin Railway and building a tram from Bupyeong to Yeonan Port to establish a comprehensive transportation network.
