Viewers Revisit Exhibition After Checking Previously Hidden Artist and Artwork Information
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan Museum of Modern Art will disclose information about the artists and works of the special exhibition "Exhibition with Almost No Information," held in the first-floor exhibition hall from July 1 to July 17. Accordingly, the exhibition title will be changed to "Exhibition with Almost Complete Information."
This exhibition was planned to reflect on the confusion and difficulty viewers experience due to the contemporary art trend of focusing excessively on the relationship between the artwork and its external elements.
Most viewers encountering contemporary art rely on external information to understand the works. This exhibition examines how viewers interpret and appreciate artworks when no information about the participating artists or works is provided.
As the title suggests, this exhibition provided almost no information about the participating artists or exhibited works. Except for the materials and sizes of the works, there were almost no explanations related to the artists and works, such as artist names, titles, or production years, which are typically available in general exhibitions.
However, starting from the 1st, the previously concealed information about the participating artists and works, hidden with special ink, will be revealed as if scratching off a lottery ticket. The exhibition also aims to explore how this information affects viewers' appreciation of the artworks.
Printed materials containing information about the artists and works are available in the exhibition hall, and related content is also provided on a specially created exhibition website. On the exhibition website, where viewers can freely write and share their reviews, they can check the previously hidden exhibition information and leave new reviews about the works, comparing their impressions before and after the information disclosure.
The participating artists, revealed only today, include a total of 17 domestic and international artists, ranging from mid-career artists such as Kim Yong-ik, Seok Seong-seok, Cody Choi, and Sarah Morris to young artists like Lim Yun-mook, Heo Chan-mi, Lee Eun-woo, and Yu Nishimura. About 90 works by these artists are exhibited.
The exhibited works cover a wide range of media, from traditional oil paintings to media works completed solely through programming, and even paintings found on the street by unknown artists.
Kang Seung-wan, director of Busan Museum of Modern Art, said, "In the contemporary art trend where information about artists and works is important, we hope this attempt to explore the autonomy of appreciation and the possibility of multifaceted interpretations of artworks will attract much interest."
The exhibition is free of charge. Viewing hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the museum is closed every Monday. For more details, please refer to the Busan Museum of Modern Art website or contact by phone.
