Gyeongnam Police Agency Cracks Down on 'Cargo Trucks Violating Traffic Laws'... Highway Patrol Unit 6 Dispatched Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency Highway Patrol Division 6th District Unit.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The 6th Precinct of the Highway Patrol Unit of the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency will conduct an intensive crackdown on cargo truck traffic violations for one month starting July 1.

According to police statistics, from January to June this year, there were 4 fatal traffic accidents and 6 deaths within the jurisdiction of the 6th Precinct, marking a 50% increase compared to the same period last year.

The police stated that analysis of the accident details revealed that 3 out of the 4 accidents occurred during dark late-night hours, and all 4 involved cargo trucks.

They added that the causes of the accidents included inattentive driving, and secondary accidents such as vehicles following the driver who had exited the vehicle after an accident colliding with them.

To halt the surge in fatal traffic accidents, the Gyeongnam police plan to deploy all available personnel, including high-speed patrol vehicles and undercover patrol cars, to crack down on ▲highway designated lane violations ▲cargo truck traffic violations such as improper loading ▲drunk driving during late-night hours ▲use of mobile phones or video watching that distracts from forward attention.

On July 22, they will participate in a joint campaign hosted by the Korea Expressway Corporation Gyeongnam Busan Headquarters at the Jinyeong Rest Area on the Namhae Expressway in the Suncheon direction.

They also plan to conduct a traffic safety campaign targeting rest area users, providing guidance not only on compliance with traffic laws but also on how to respond to secondary accidents by turning on hazard lights and evacuating to the shoulder. They will also distribute flare signals that can be used in emergencies.

Jin Munho, the precinct chief, said, “With the recent surge in fatal traffic accidents coinciding with the rainy season, the risk of accidents has increased, so drivers need to be especially cautious.” He added, “Please strictly follow traffic laws and quickly evacuate to the shoulder in case of a traffic accident.”
