"Vaccination Rate 90%"... South Korea Ranks No.1 Worldwide in 'COVID-19 Resilience'

Russia at the Bottom Rank... China at 51st Place

"Vaccination Rate 90%"... South Korea Ranks No.1 Worldwide in 'COVID-19 Resilience' South Korea ranked first in Bloomberg's monthly 'Covid Resilience Ranking,' rising five places from the previous month.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Wooseok] South Korea ranked first in the world this month in the Covid-19 resilience ranking.

On the 29th (local time), Bloomberg posted the 'June Covid-19 Resilience Ranking' on its homepage. South Korea rose five places from the previous month to claim the top spot in this ranking.

The 'Covid-19 Resilience Ranking' is a monthly report by Bloomberg that evaluates the Covid-19 response of 53 countries worldwide using 11 indicators across three categories: Reopening, Covid Status, and Quality of Life. This is the final compiled result.

Since Bloomberg began ranking in November 2020, South Korea generally maintained a high position, ranking 4th initially, but after a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases in May last year, it plummeted to the 20th place range.

In March this year, it even dropped to 28th place.

However, it has since rebounded and recorded first place in the final ranking announcement. South Korea showed improvements in all Covid Status indicators, including 'monthly confirmed cases per 100,000 population,' 'fatality rate over the past three months,' and 'deaths per 1 million population.'

It also received positive evaluations in the Quality of Life category, and in the Reopening category, all indicators improved except for the 'change rate in flight volume compared to pre-pandemic levels.'

In the so-called 'Pandemic MVP' ranking, which ranks countries consistently in the top tier based on cumulative data over the past 1 year and 8 months, South Korea placed 4th, following the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Canada, and Finland.

Bloomberg explained that many people in South Korea participated in social distancing measures, including mask-wearing guidelines, and that the vaccination rate reached 90% of the total population.

Meanwhile, Russia ranked lowest in Covid-19 resilience for two consecutive months. China, which is implementing strict regulations under its 'Zero Covid' policy, was evaluated at 51st place.
