The county will intensively crack down on illegal activities in the water source protection areas of Saengcho, Danseong, and Jinyangho water source sections until the end of July.
The illegal activities subject to crackdown include unauthorized business operations, violating buildings, illegal use changes, illegal land alterations, and waste dumping within the water source protection area.
In addition, prohibited activities such as swimming, recreation, camping, cooking, car washing, fishing, and collecting freshwater snails within the protection area during summer are also subject to crackdown.
The county has organized a crackdown team consisting of four groups to conduct regular patrols during weekdays and night patrol and surveillance activities.
Patrols will be strengthened on weekends and holidays as well, and various equipment such as CCTV will be utilized to enforce the crackdown.
If illegal activities are detected within the water source protection area, according to Article 83, Clause 1 of the Water Supply Act, a complaint will be filed, and imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to 20 million won will be imposed.
A county official said, “This intensive crackdown is for securing a stable water source and preserving water quality,” and added, “We ask all local residents and visitors to prohibit all illegal activities within the water source protection area for environmental conservation and securing safe water.”
