[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Han Guk-yeong, the new director of Seoul Facilities Corporation, took office on the 30th. The newly appointed director Han began his duties by visiting sites and encouraging communication with employees, foregoing a separate inauguration ceremony.
On the 29th, Han Guk-yeong received his appointment letter from Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon at the mayor’s office in Seoul City Hall and officially started his term on the 30th.
On the day, Director Han treated the ‘field’?the closest point of contact with citizens?as his ‘workplace’ and chose to visit the corporation’s project sites instead of holding an inauguration ceremony. This was to directly check whether the facilities were comfortable and safe for citizens to use and to encourage the hard work of on-site employees.
The first visit was to Neungdong Seoul Children’s Grand Park in Gwangjin-gu, followed by an inspection of the Seoul Municipal Crematorium in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. The choice of these two locations on his first day reflected Director Han’s determination. Since the corporation’s 24 projects cover the entire life cycle of Seoul citizens?from the ‘cradle (Children’s Grand Park)’ to the ‘grave (Municipal Crematorium)’?the new director’s initial resolve is to devote full efforts to ensuring citizens’ safety and convenience.
Seoul Facilities Corporation is a Seoul Metropolitan Government-affiliated public enterprise that professionally manages various urban infrastructure closely related to citizens’ daily lives, including cultural and sports facilities such as Gocheok Sky Dome, Seoul World Cup Stadium, Cheonggyecheon Stream, and Seoul Children’s Grand Park; memorial facilities; automobile-only roads like Dongbu Expressway and Olympic Boulevard; underground shopping malls; and public bicycles called Ddareungi.
Before departing for the field, Director Han visited the Disaster Comprehensive Situation Room on the 20th floor of the headquarters. Due to heavy rain across Seoul from early morning, he checked the control and drainage status of automobile-only roads and the step-by-step response system, while encouraging the staff.
New Director Han Guk-yeong is an administrative expert with 30 years of experience in various fields of Seoul City, including serving as Director of the Seoul Human Resources Development Institute, Industrial Economy Policy Officer, Head of the Han River Project Headquarters, and Lifelong Education Policy Officer. Notably, during his tenure as head of the Seoul Waterworks Headquarters, a Seoul City-run public enterprise, he was credited with raising the quality of tap water to a higher level.
Director Han said, “I will place the site where services are provided to citizens as the highest priority of all values and do my best for customer-centered field management,” adding, “I also plan to focus on creating a scientific and systematic disaster safety management system and a strong organizational culture.”
