[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ‘Champion Wedge’.
It is Callaway's new Jaws Raw wedges (Callaway the new Jaws Raw wedges·photo). It made its debut last week at the Travelers Championship, a PGA Tour event held at River Highlands TPC in Cromwell, Connecticut, USA. It is a new weapon equipped by Xander Schauffele, Kevin Kisner (both USA), and Mark Leishman (Australia), who won gold at the Tokyo Olympics. Schauffele, thanks to his outstanding wedge shots in this tournament, earned his second win of the season following the Zurich Classic in April.
Schauffele explained the driving force behind his victory was "focusing on sticking wedge shots to make birdies." It is the successor to the Jaws Mack Daddy 5. It has the nickname ‘Spin Monster.’ The new product was created reflecting the opinions of tour players. The polished leading edge stands out. Leishman said, "I like it from the appearance." It has a rough face and extremely sharp grooves that enhance greenside spin.
It adopts Tungsten Weighting and different hosel lengths for each loft. It controls trajectory and leads to an optimal center of gravity to maximize forgiveness. Kisner, who used the 52-degree Jaws Raw wedge, praised it, saying, "The grooves are aggressive," and "I was able to easily make full shots even on the fairway." The newly adopted 37V grooves are designed with an obtuse angle to generate more friction on the contact surface with the ball.
Additionally, it features Groove-in-Groove Technology, which produces extra spin on both straight and open faces. There are a total of 17 loft grind combinations. It is available in Raw Face Chrome or unplated Raw Black Plasma options. Shafts come in steel and graphite. It is scheduled to be released on the 22nd.
