[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Danish artist Olafur Eliasson, who conveys philosophical messages through light, shadow, and color, now invites audiences into a realm of uncertainty composed of various color phenomena.

Olafur Eliasson's solo exhibition "Inside the new blind spots," held at PKM Gallery in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, is his first solo exhibition in Korea in five years since 2017. In this exhibition, Eliasson presents new images representing his artistic world through new sculptures, watercolor paintings, and large-scale prints.

The artist offers an experience where trajectories drawn by the individual and others, artworks, and space intersect and relate within the blind spots, revealing things we have not seen or could not see before, through diverse colors.

In the watercolor series, Eliasson visually presents his main interest: the exploration of "color phenomena." Focusing on color, which does not exist by itself but materializes when light reflects off the surface of objects and reaches our retinas, the artist emphasizes that analyzing this is ultimately connected to the ability to analyze ourselves.

Through layering work in the wall sculpture "Seeing sensitivity flare," which visually implements the lens flare phenomenon (light appearing as rings or circles when a lens faces the sun or a bright light source), the artist powerfully conveys that errors are a core element for exploring all possibilities.

"Your polyamorous sphere," composed of colored shadows cast on the entire wall, is a "hanging" sculpture inspired by Plato's solids, combining five three-dimensional forms derived from the same regular polygon into one crystal. Three layers of colored glass, including color effect filter glass where transmission and reflection occur simultaneously, create unexpected color combinations and structures depending on the viewing angle.

The artist's long-standing research on light and color is further concretized in the 2005 work "The colour spectrum series." The work consists of photogravure pieces that convert approximations of the visible light spectrum visualized through a prism into pigments. Across 48 units, Eliasson smoothly displays numerous color transitions from deep violet to dark crimson.

In particular, "The blue colour circle," "The red colour circle," and "The yellow colour circle" are part of the color circle series starting from the three primary colors. The artist newly presents the traditional primary colors of art history as 18 charts of color wheels in his unique way.

Alongside the exhibition, a special reading room has been prepared where visitors can access 39 major publications, including the solo exhibition catalog, artist books, project and workshop materials, and studio magazines that overview Eliasson's artistic world. Through examining these records, visitors can interpret the artist's work and the new meanings of this exhibition firsthand.
