Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters Appoints First Female Paramedic Nationwide... Kim Nan-hee Inaugurated as Yecheon Fire Station Chief Kim Nan-hee, Yecheon Fire Station Chief, inaugurated on July 1.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The first female fire station chief in Gyeongbuk Province has been appointed, drawing attention.


The Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters announced that on July 1, Kim Nan-hee, commander of the 119 Special Rescue Team, will take office as the chief of Yecheon Fire Station and begin her official duties.


Newly appointed Chief Kim Nan-hee was the first special hire in the province as a nationwide first-class professional paramedic in 1994, starting her career at Andong Fire Station.


In 2006, she was appointed as the nation's first female 119 rescue team leader at Yeongcheon Fire Station, and in 2016, she was promoted to the first female Fire Lieutenant Colonel (Grade 5 administrative officer) in the province.


In 2021, she was promoted to Fire Captain (Grade 4 secretary) and served as the nation's first female commander of the 119 Special Rescue Team. With this appointment, she became the first fire station chief appointed from among approximately 13,000 nationwide paramedics.


She has accumulated diverse experience by serving as the inaugural head of the Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters Emergency Medical Situation Management Center, task force leader of the Central Emergency Medical Situation Management Center under the Ministry of Public Safety and Security, 119 Emergency Medical Section Chief at the National Fire Agency, and head of the Rescue Planning Team at Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters.


She participated in life-saving operations at the Gimhae civil aircraft crash and Daegu subway fire scenes, managed overall situation operations during the Gyeongju Mauna Resort collapse accident, and commanded the 119 emergency medical teams in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.


Recognized as a competent manager with experience in both field and administrative duties at central and local levels, she is praised for her excellent situation management skills and emphasis on communication and harmony with staff.


Kim Nan-hee, the new chief of Yecheon Fire Station, stated, “As the first female fire station chief in Gyeongbuk, I feel a heavy sense of responsibility and mission. I will cherish every citizen as if they were my own family and do my best for regional safety.”


Newly appointed Chief Kim Nan-hee received the Prime Minister’s Award (Model Public Official) in 2002 and the Presidential Citation in 2020.
