Hyundai Ioniq 5 Surpasses Mercedes-Benz and Audi in Comparative Review by Leading German Auto Magazine

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Hyundai Motor Company's dedicated electric vehicle model Ioniq 5 ranked first in a comparison test conducted by a leading German automotive magazine.

The Ioniq 5 was selected as the most competitive car in a recent comparison evaluation of four electric sport utility vehicles (SUVs) conducted by the German automotive magazine Auto Motor und Sport (AMS).

AMS is one of the three most trusted German automotive magazines, alongside Auto Bild and Auto Zeitung. This comparison evaluation targeted four models fiercely competing in the European electric vehicle market: Ioniq 5, Mercedes-Benz EQA 250, Audi Q4 e-tron, and Renault Megane E-Tech. The evaluation covered seven categories: ▲Body ▲Safety ▲Comfort ▲Powertrain ▲Driving Behavior ▲Environment ▲Economy.

This was the first time the Ioniq 5 competed against the EQA 250 and Megane E-Tech in a German automotive magazine comparison evaluation.

The Ioniq 5 took first place in three evaluation categories?Powertrain, Body, and Economy?and achieved an overall score of 617 points, surpassing the Q4 e-tron with 602 points, the Megane E-Tech with 577 points, and the EQA 250 with 571 points. Although the score difference with the second-place Q4 e-tron was about 15 points, the Ioniq 5 dominated the competition with a large margin of 40 and 46 points over the third and fourth place vehicles, respectively.

The Ioniq 5 received the highest score of 92 points in the Powertrain category, which is considered a core competitive factor for electric vehicles. It also earned the highest score (105 points) in the Body category, which evaluates interior space, versatility and functionality, and all-around visibility, confirming its product competitiveness compared to the other vehicles.

Additionally, the Ioniq 5 recorded the top score (127 points) in the Economy evaluation section, which assesses sales price, residual value, repair costs, and fuel costs.

AMS commented, "The 800V ultra-fast charging technology based on E-GMP is a key factor enabling the Ioniq 5 to win," and added, "It is an electric vehicle with advantages such as various convenience features, high space utilization, and top-level braking performance."
