[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Will actor Park Hae-il and director Kim Han-min continue their box office success?
Park Hae-il, who collaborated with director Kim for the third time with "Hansan: Rising Dragon," following "Paradise Murdered" (2007) and "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" (2011), expressed trust, saying, "Because we have known each other for a long time, he understands my temperament as an actor better than anyone else."
He added, "Playing a historical figure known by 50 million people was a burden, but after carefully reading the script and listening to the director's explanation of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, whose character he wanted to portray, I made up my mind."
Attention is focused on whether Park Hae-il and director Kim will continue their box office momentum. After the success of "Paradise Murdered," their reunion four years later with "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" attracted a cumulative audience of 7.47 million.
In "Hansan: Rising Dragon," released on July 27, Park Hae-il plays Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who defends Joseon's seas while facing overwhelming odds, showing the wisdom of a leader. Director Kim Han-min devoted effort to the Haegeukjin formation choreography and the design and production of the turtle ship to convey the catharsis felt in battle. Attention is on what the overwhelming victory of Joseon that the two will unfold on screen will look like.
